Marine litter in the EU

The European Union is currently looking into the implementation of the so-called Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). Litter in the marine environment is one of the elements incorporated into the issue of 'Good Environmental Status (GES) of the MSFD.  IMARES scientist Jan van Franeker has participated in the international Task Group that reviewed relevant knowledge and provided advise on possible approaches to GES. The Litter Taskgroup Report has now been published by the European Union.  A short summary of that report was prepared as a poster for the SETAC Conference in Seville, Spain.

Zwerfvuil in de EG

De Europese Unie buigt zich op dit moment over de invulling van de zogenaamde Kaderrichtlijn Marien (KRM). Zwerfvuil op zee is één van de elementen die een rol spelen in het concept van "Goede Milieu Toestand (GMT) van de KRM. IMARES onderzoeker Jan van Franeker nam deel in de taakgroep die de relevante kennis bijeen bracht en die adviseerde over mogelijke werkwijzes.  Het eindrapport van de taakgroep is nu door de Europese Unie gepubliceerd. Een bondige samenvatting van dit rapport werd als poster ingebracht bij de SETAC Conferentie in Sevilla, Spanje
